Morning and/or evening (but keep in mind during the day)

1. Who or what is supporting me in this moment & today?
(eg enough air 2 breathe, food, shelter, car, warm h2o, people, God, etc)
2. What will make today an awesome day?
(also gift YOU with at least a half hour of FUN!!)
3. What am I celebrating today? (ie what “good” is happening today?)

Aware that every event, situation is here for my best and perfect life…my job: notice! stay in this moment.

Self realization

For Doug….

Here is the quote you wanted…

“Self-realization is not complete until it lives as action. Live the turnarounds. When you see how you have been preaching to others, go back and make amends, and let them know how difficult it is for you to do what you wanted them to do. Let them know the ways that you manipulated and conned them, how you got angry, used sex, used money, and used guilt to get what you wanted.

“I wasn’t always able to live the advice that I so generously held out for other to live. When I realized this, I found myself on equal ground with the people I had judged. I saw that my philosophy wasn’t so easy for ny of us to live. I saw that we’re all doing the best we can. This is how a lifetime of humility begins.” ~Byron Katie Loving What Is p. 98

Why love the pricks?

Fable of the Porcupine

(thanks to Roslyn)
It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together. This way, they covered and protected themselves; but, the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other.

After a while, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. This way they learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationship with their companion, but the most important part of it, was the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

Therefore: the best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but the best is when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person’s good qualities.

What are *you* willing to lose?

The loss of one’s old life is a condition for finding a new one.
Therefore: Make a list of what you are willing to lose in exchange for finding something better.
eg I am willing to exchange being “right” for being kind. What this looks like in my life:
Being open to reality, to what is, not making fun of my husband as a way to try and change him, because, don’t you know, he would be so much better off, if he did it the “right” way(read:my way), and then I could be happy.
Now make your list:
I am willing to trade hording for giving. (Let’s see if I can live it now!)

You *are* the love you are seeking

“I think of our inner life, our soul, as something we come into life with. It’s shining, in our hearts. It’s always there with us. But as we go through life, this light, which is in the lantern of who we are, our body and our psyche are this lantern around our soul light, gets covered with layers of soot, layers of conditioning. Let’s say you had a really difficult childhood and you’re this beautiful light that you came into the world with, the stress of your childhood, the anger you might have built up, the fear, the mistrust, it begins to dull the natural light that is inside of us. So when we say we go on a spiritual path, we’re not going somewhere else. We’re not going to get something we don’t already have. We have to find a way to clean the sides of our lantern. …”

“…And psychology is actually a sacred journey if you do it in service of liberating the light. So you’re aware, “My childhood makes me perpetually angry,” so there’s no—you go to church and the minister says, “Be love. You are love.” But you’re always angry, and it doesn’t sync up. But you can spend time let’s say with a therapist or a counselor or pastoral counselor cleaning that side of the lantern with dealing with your childhood wounds. Healing yourself.”

“… That’s a spiritual tool. So is religion. Prayer. Ritual. So is contemplation. Meditation. So they all are part of a holistic spiritual path.” ~Elizabeth Lesser
