What Is The Work?
  • The Work is a way to identify and question the thoughts that cause all the suffering in the world.
  • The Work is four questions and turnarounds.


  • Anyone with an open mind can do it.

Concepts
  • There are no new stressful thoughts.
  • It is not the thought that causes our suffering. It is our attachment to the thought, the stories we tell ourselves about what is happening.

Examples of Universal Beliefs
  • “I need to know what to do.”
  • “Children are supposed to love their parents.”
  • “Something terrible is going to happen.”
  • “I am too fat/too thin/too old/too young.”
  • “People are judging me.”
  • “I need a partner to be happy.”
  • “My partner doesn’t appreciate me.”
  • “People should not lie.”
  • “There’s too much to do.”
  • “I need more money.”
  • “Something terrible is going to happen.”
  • “My body should be healthy.”
  • “I can control how others feel about me.”
  • “You don’t care about me.”
  • “My boss should appreciate me.”
  • “People are destroying the environment.”
  • “God should not let children die.”

Turnarounds
  • Belief: “He doesn’t listen to me.”


  • Turn it around to yourself:
    “I don’t listen to me.”


  • Turn it around to the other:
    “I don’t listen to him.”
  • Turn it around to the opposite:
    “He does listen to me.”
  • And don’t forget to find three genuine examples for each turnaround.
